We can never be too cautious when it comes to security within our homes. Wireless intercoms are perfect not only in the office but at home as well. There are many types of intercom systems available and each having their own benefits. The days of ripping out walls to install wire for your system is in the past, so let’s look at wireless intercoms.

The most popular wireless intercom system is the baby monitor. You find these everywhere and they are cheap. The only problem is that these types of monitors can be tuned in to by other people looking for signals. 95% of the baby monitors out there have no digital protection. Some would even say that you’ve set up a bug in your own home that would allow thieves to raid your home after they know you will be away on vacation or sound asleep. Since you have no idea that someone else is listening to what’s happening inside your home, you would have no reason to turn it off. So the warning here is to be careful.

There are other types of wireless intercoms that are handy around the home. The bathroom is an excellent place to have an intercom system in case you or a family member runs in to trouble. This is especially important for seniors to have some sort of system that will alert someone else that they have fallen or are having a hard time getting out of the tub.

Office wireless intercoms are much more practical than picking up the phone and dialing the same internal extension all the time. Not only that but it will allow you to work hands free and talk to a group of people if needed. If you work at a bank or high risk job, an intercom can be switched on quickly without anyone else knowing but you.

Things to look for in a wireless intercom:
- Easy installation – whether it is installed by you or someone else
- Digital Modes with encryption – for your privacy
- Clarity – don’t use a bad sounding intercom because it will only get worse over time
- Range – Make sure that the intercom will be able to connect to the base. Sometimes when signals have to travel through floors and walls, it can become very unstable.

No matter what type of system you’re using, you should never talk about extremely important and person information close to any of the wireless intercoms. It’s easy to overlook but you could potentially give someone your work schedule, vacation plans, and bank account and credit card numbers if ordering something on the phone.
